Superintendent Newsletter

February 2019

Dear Parents:

With the need to cancel school due to inclement weather so many days in the recent weeks, our district will consider having delayed starts when the weather conditions merit that consideration.  Since our district has not typically utilized the delayed start option, we have decided that some preparatory general guidelines should be in place before implementation.

Delayed start will be utilized only when weather conditions are predicted to improve as the day progresses.  For instance, a day in which transportation would not be safe in the early part of the morning but should be safe by mid-morning, is a possible time to consider the delayed start option.

While we do not plan to utilize this often, it can be a viable solution when conditions are safe for transportation later in the morning.  As parents, please plan how this will impact your childcare in the event of a delayed start.  Safety always is our number one priority.

Here are some general guidelines regarding a delayed start.

  1. If a delayed start is announced, school will begin two hours later than the normal start time.
  2. The delayed start will be announced in the same way that school closings are shared through text and phone messages.
  3. Bus pick-up times will also be two hours later than the usual bus times.
  4. School dismissal times will be the regular time, unless there is a need for a changed dismissal time.
  5. Extracurricular activities will be announced in the same manner.

Our district continues to prioritize student safety as our number one concern.  If you have questions about the possibility of a late start, please call the district office for additional information.  We express our sincere appreciation for your continued support and understanding.
